Policy on Ryerson's Official Web Page
This policy statement was formulated by the Information Technology Committee of Senate, and approved by Senate. It is intended to protect Ryerson's reputation and public image, as represented on the Internet, without hampering or discouraging any individual's desire to participate actively in the World Wide Web.
The Ryerson World Wide Web presence will consist of a hierarchy of official Ryerson home pages, with links to other pages. Official Ryerson Web pages are those that comply with this policy statement; they comprise of the Ryerson Home Pages (RHPs), maintained by the Office of University Advancement, and various Departmental Home Pages (DHPs), to which the RHPs are linked. Official home pages, both the RHPs and DHPs, are approved by, and representative of, the University.
The University acknowledges the existence of unofficial home pages as well; these are not approved by, or representative of, the University; and they do not bear the Ryerson logo.
RHPs will be designated by the Ryerson logo. DHPs will be designated by an electronic representation of department letterhead, together with the Ryerson logo. Further, all official home pages will incorporate a link to this policy statement, and a notice to the effect that only those pages bearing the Ryerson logo are to be considered official.
The Office of University Advancement will determine the content, including links, of the RHPs. The content of DHPs will be determined by the individual departments, who will assume responsibility for the accuracy and appropriateness of information appearing on, or linked to, their DHPs. Web authors and information providers who wish to link to any official Ryerson home page should approach either the Office of University Advancement or the owner of the appropriate DHP. Web page authors who wish to be linked by any official Ryerson home page must ensure the material they provide:
- Complies with all ONET regulations.
- Is not intended to advertise or help operate a private business.
- Does not present copyrighted material without the author's consent. When possible, copyrighted material should be linked, not reproduced.
- Complies with the equity and harassment policies of the university.
- Identifies the individual responsible for maintaining the page, and specifies the date of most recent revision.
Web page providers will be responsible for keeping their material reasonably current; and will be expected to report significant changes to their material either to the appropriate Department or to the Office of University Advancement.
In the event of any dispute arising from the use of this policy, arbitration will be provided by the Information Technology Committee of Senate.
The Director of Communications will report at least once annually to Senate on the state of the RHPs.
This policy will be evaluated after one year.
