Ryerson Awards Night and the new President's Blue & Gold Award of Excellence

The immense talent and dedication of Ryerson's faculty and staff have made the growth and success of our university and its reputation possible. I am, therefore, pleased to announce two new ways in which our university is going to recognize the excellence of our people - to act on our commitment to put people first.

Ryerson Awards Night

This year marks the first annual Ryerson Awards Night. Bringing together awards that recognize excellence in teaching, research and administration, this red-carpet celebration will be a tremendous opportunity to honour faculty and staff members' highest achievements.

The awards that will be presented in 2012 are:

  • Faculty Service Awards
  • Faculty Teaching Awards
  • Librarian & Counsellor Awards
  • Errol Aspevig Award for Outstanding Academic Leadership
  • Faculty SRC Awards
  • Sarwan Sahota Distinguished Scholar Award
  • President's Blue & Gold Award

Ryerson Awards Night will take place on April 4, 2012, at the Delta Chelsea. It will include a formal dinner for the award recipients and their families and special guests.

By Ryerson Awards Night 2013, we will have reviewed and harmonized all our university's awards and nomination processes. Next year, we will also include the Staff Star Award (for OPSEU employees), Teaching Assistant/Graduate Assistant Awards, and the Dr. Linda Grayson Achievement Award (for MAC employees).

President's Blue & Gold Award of Excellence

The new President's Blue & Gold Award of Excellence is a new award to pay tribute to the outstanding achievements of one individual and one team in the administration of the University.

The President's Blue & Gold Award will celebrate people who enrich our university by providing services, participating in or leading teams, and/or demonstrating Ryerson's values in one or more of the following areas:

  • Enhancing the student experience
  • Advancing Ryerson priorities related to scholarly, research and activity
  • Demonstrating excellence and innovation
  • Creating and contributing to a work and study atmosphere based on the values of equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Advancing a culture that puts people first

Individual recipients will have been a Ryerson employee for at least two years, including administrative leaders, MAC, OPSEU, and CUPE 233 employees. The team award may also include faculty members. Faculty, staff, students and alumni may submit nominations from January 30, 2012, until February 27, 2012. Forms and guidelines are available online. I encourage you to get involved in this exciting new endeavor by nominating an individual and/or team.

I am certain that you share my pride in the outstanding contributions individuals and groups make to the academic and administrative life of our university, and I am looking forward to having an opportunity personally to honour the dedication and achievements that make Ryerson such a vibrant people-first community.
