Marni S. Dicker, senior vice-president of business and government affairs and corporate counsel at SNC-Lavalin O&M, has been appointed a distinguished visiting scholar in the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science at Ryerson University.

"Ryerson University is honoured to welcome an engineering executive of Marni's calibre," said John Isbister, interim provost and vice-president, academic. "Students in the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science will benefit from this opportunity to learn from Marni, who brings a wealth of commercial and corporate expertise to engineering projects."

Dicker is an expert on structuring complex deals, outsourcing, contracting, public-private partnerships and risk management. Her certifications include an honors BA in commerce, a bachelor's degree in civil laws and a bachelor's degree in law. She has also been an instructor of corporate commercial law at the Law Society of Upper Canada.

"I am thrilled with the opportunity to be a member of the Ryerson faculty," Dicker said. "I am thoroughly impressed with the tremendous work being undertaken by the students and the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science. I look forward to contributing to these successes by bringing my experience from SNC-Lavalin to Ryerson and providing a commercial, non-engineering perspective to the development of engineering projects."

At SNC-Lavalin, one of the leading engineering and construction groups in the world, Dicker is responsible for business and corporate affairs and government relations. In addition, she leads the security services team that obtains security clearances in accordance with federal government requirements, conducts threat risk assessments and provides a variety of security consulting services within Canada and worldwide. Furthermore, she advises on all legal issues, negotiates client contracts and structures complex agreements such as joint ventures and partnerships. Dicker is also responsible for the company's litigation and claims management.

At Ryerson, her duties will include conducting independent research, facilitating research partnerships, advising students on their field work, participating in seminars and workshops with students on professionally related topics and acting as a liaison-at-large for FEAS and the outside community. Her appointment runs for one year, beginning Sept. 1, 2012.
