In four days students are moving into residence and this year they'll be getting extra help.
Student Housing Services (SHS) is helping 600 first-year students move into three residences on Aug. 28. The halls of the International Living and Learning Centre, O'Keefe House and Pitman Hall will be full of students and family members carrying boxes of personal belongings as the beginning of the academic year is set to start. SHS is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and as a result included some people from the past to acknowledge the milestone.
New this year, residence alumni are volunteering to help manage the day. Twenty-five former residents, 20 returning students and more than 50 varsity athletes will assist the additional seven full-time staff, five maintenance workers, over 10 cleaning personnel and more than 55 student-staff to make sure students move in a smooth and seamless fashion.
Move-in information on each residence can be found here. SHS also created a list of items that might be useful to bring for the dorm and classroom.
Residence move-in day starts just before campus-wide Orientation activities kick off and a week ahead of classes. SHS starts its own orientation Sunday at 4:30 p.m. with a first-floor meeting and the annual Residence Pep Rally in the evening. SHS also has sessions for parents at 11 a.m. or 4:30 p.m. in the Rogers Communications Centre, room 204.
Check the Residence Life section on SHS' website for more information on orientation programs and events.
