Dr. Roberto Botelho, a professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biology, was awarded the IG Maud Menten New Principal Investigator Prize (Biomedical Theme) for 2012.
This highly competitive and prestigious prize—established by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Institute of Genetics—is named for Canadian biomedical scientist Maud Menten. Menten and her team partner, German biochemist Leonor Michaelis, developed a fundamental concept in science—the Michaelis-Menten equation.
The prize consists of a one-year, non-renewable $30,000 research grant. Dr. Botelho will be traveling to Mont Gabriel (Quebec) to attend the GI 11th Annual New Principal Investigators Meeting in late October. This award continues Rob's recent success at CIHR—where his application was ranked #1 in the Cell Physiology panel in a particularly competitive and challenging competition in May 2012.
