Our Mission
To prepare graduates for social work with populations disadvantaged by social inequities and life circumstances, and
To provide leadership and innovation in social work education through teaching, scholarship, research and community service.
Our Core Values
We affirm the human dignity and value the social equality of all people.
We educate about the barriers to equality and seek to address the causes of oppression.
We are committed to learning environments that respect human and cultural diversity, and to the implementation of social work values in our curriculum and in the delivery of our Program.
We stand with populations that experience poverty, exploitation and domination, and seek to work with all those committed to the advancement of human dignity, social equality, and social care.
Our mission reflects the School's commitment to a set of core values and principles. These include our on-going attention to the rigour and relevance of our undergraduate degree program, which prepares our graduates with the requisite knowledge, skills and values to work with marginalized populations. We continue to foster student-centered learning environments that engage and challenge students, and which are responsive to life circumstances and societal forces that create barriers to the student experience. We maintain our commitment to our communities, expressed in our collaborative community-based research, community service and in educational relationships with field placement settings. Most defining is our on-going struggle to stand with communities that experience oppression and marginalization as we pursue our commitment to social justice.
