Bachelor of Social Work

The School of Social Work, located within the Faculty of Community Services, is widely known and respected for its leadership in progressive education for social work practice. At the undergraduate level, the School offers an applied four-year program of study leading to the Bachelor of Social Work degree. Courses are taught within social justice and anti-oppression frameworks, with attention given to the historical background, issues and continued strivings of Aboriginal peoples in Canada. A core component of the curriculum is the field practicum in third and fourth years which has the objective of developing practice skills and preparing a self-evaluating, knowledgeable and reflexive professional social work practitioner. The Program is accredited by the Canadian Association of Schools of Social Work.

There are numerous awards available. Criteria and application deadlines vary for different awards. Academic achievement, financial need, community involvement, and leadership are all considered. We encourage all students to apply for awards and scholarships. There is no financial penalty for OSAP students receiving awards of up to $500.

Students are strongly recommended to review the full award description and qualifying criteria for each awards prior to applying, to determine their eligibility.

There are also a number of external scholarships, awards and bursaries for which students may be eligible to apply. For more information about these awards, please contact the Ryerson Financial Aid & Awards office or Jeff Edmunds, School of Social Work.

All Ryerson students registered in a daytime diploma/degree program (including part-time students) who can demonstrate financial need, are eligible to apply for a Ryerson General Bursary. Check with the Financial Aid & Awards office for details, or their web site at www.ryerson.ca/financialaid.
