Tenure Stream Faculty Position

The Department of Sociology in the Faculty of Arts at Ryerson University invites applications for a tenure-stream position at the Assistant Professor level subject to final budgetary approval.  We are seeking a colleague who can make a two-fold contribution to our program course offerings. The candidate must have (a) expertise in and a demonstrated capacity to teach research methods – qualitative and/or quantitative, including potentially statistics – and (b) expertise in and a demonstrated capacity to teach in at least one of the following areas: immigration and citizenship; city communities and everyday life; and/or First Nations Studies.

The position commences August 1, 2010.  Applicants must have a completed PhD in Sociology or a related field prior to the commencement of this position, a record of effective teaching at the undergraduate level, and a publication record of note or promise with a research plan.

Ryerson’s Sociology degree program offers a curriculum requiring a substantial commitment to research methods and social theory, with emphases on diversity, media, and the contemporary urban experience. Members of the Department work from a range of theoretical perspectives.

In addition, please highlight specific courses taught with full academic responsibility, and provide summary evaluations of teaching, and the names, addresses, telephone numbers and email addresses of three academic referees, at least one of whom is clearly identified as being able specifically to assess the applicant’s classroom teaching. Application letters must also include a statement of teaching preferences as outlined above.
