Sociology
Welcome back to all our returning Sociology Program students!
We hope that your upcoming academic year will be a very rewarding one. Your Professors and Administrative staff in the Department of Sociology congratulate you on completing many of your degree requirements.
We recognize that the university years are full of changes, opportunities and challenges - getting to know and explore Ryerson University, perhaps moving to Toronto, or moving away from home. It is a challenge to keep up with university expectations, delving into new areas of study, reflecting on the meaning of ideas and experiences, improving life-skills such as time management and writing. It is an even greater challenge to develop the right balance between school demands, work requirements and your personal life. Many of you are working and budgeting for food and rent, as well as tuition and books, keeping in close contact with family and friends, and making new ones.
Next year holds more challenges, more accomplishments and more satisfaction. You should feel good about how far you have progressed in your studies. We, the Sociology faculty members and staff are proud of your work and accomplishments. And we eagerly look forward to your return, to working with you, and to your efforts and successes in the coming year.
We also look forward to hearing about some of your summer adventures and your reflections on how you have grown personally and professionally in these last few months and years.
In closing, I want to thank those who have shown wonderful leadership by organizing and being active in the Sociology Student Union, involving yourselves in the departmental hiring interview process, serving on various University committees, and generally supporting one another. Please continue to be involved as opportunities arise, and especially help mentor the incoming students. You can make a real contribution not only to their Ryerson experience but their life success by welcoming and supporting them.
Welcome back,
C.T. (Terry) Gillin
Chair, Department of Sociology
