Professor Marilyn Lee, M.Sc., CPHI(C)

Professor Marilyn Lee has been teaching in the School of Occupational and Public Health since 1986. A former graduate of the School of Occupational and Public Health, Marilyn's professional experience includes six years in the field as a certified public health inspector in Guelph, Ontario.

Professor Lee received her undergraduate degree in Zoology from the University of Massachusetts followed by a Master of Science in Pathobiology from Johns Hopkins University, School of Hygiene and Public Health. She is member of the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI) and has served on several committees including the Advisory Council on Drinking Water Quality and Treatment Standards (reporting to the Minister of the Environment, Ontario) and the Joint Committee on Drinking Water Treatment Devices of NSF. Professor Lee conducts applied research with an interest in analyzing trends in food-borne illness and antibiotic-resistant food-borne pathogens. She has also published work on the importance of temperature control in food safety. More recently she completed a cross-Canada survey of thermometers used by public health inspectors, and another study on methods for campers, hikers and travelers to decontaminate drinking water.

Professor Lee is currently studying policies intended to prevent enteric illness in daycare centres and long-term care facilities.
