What is a Challenge Credit?

A challenge credit is academic credit for skills and knowledge gained outside the traditional post-secondary environment. Usually this is gained through work experience.
The evaluation process and criteria used in the granting of Challenge Credits may differ from the normal grading process.
Can I challenge any credit?

No. You need to contact the teaching department for information on which courses can be challenged.
  | You may not apply for a challenge credit in a course that you have been enrolled in at Ryerson or at another institution. |
  | You may not apply for a challenge credit in a course you have already attempted to challenge or have received a failed grade in. |
  | A maximum of five single-term challenge credits may be applied toward your degree. |
  | Consult the Teaching Department to determine the method of challenge. |
  | The Ted Rogers School of Business Management does not allow Challenge Credit for courses taught by the School. |
  | The Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science, and the Faculty of Science does not allow Challenge Credit for courses taught by the Faculty. |
How do I get a Challenge Credit?

  | Applications are available on-line at ryerson.ca/forms and at the Enrollment Services and Student Fees counter in POD-64. Follow the instructions on the back of the form. If you have any questions about the procedure, Curriculum Advising can help you out at www.ryerson.ca/curriculumadvising |
  | You will be expected to fill out the first portion of the form and submit it to the Student Fees office with your payment. |
The fee for a challenge is $175 (subject to change).
  | Some requirement will be made to verify your knowledge of the course material, usually an examination. |
  | A successful challenge is recorded as CHG on your academic record. You receive the credit toward your degree, but it is not calculated in your grade point average. |
