You should be aware of the number of times you are allowed to repeat a course, whether you pass or fail. It is very important for you to read all of the following information so that you understand it. The policy statement reads as follows: The grade earned for a repeated course is substituted for the previous grade in calculating subsequent grade point averages even if the later grade is lower, but both attempts are recorded on the transcript. A passing grade in either of the attempts will be used to fulfill graduation requirements. No course can be repeated more than twice. (i.e., enrolled initially, repeated once, repeated twice = three enrollments). The count of course repeats will include any corresponding/equivalent continuing education courses, where relevant (i.e., ACC 100 and CACC 100; CYPT 200 = RMG 200). If you repeat a course to improve your final grade, even if you earn three (3) D grades, you will not be eligible to repeat the course a third time. If you have failed a course three times you CANNOT use a Letter of Permission to take an equivalent course at another post-secondary institution and then apply to transfer it into a Ryerson program.
What happens if I fail a course three times? If you fail a required course for the third time, you will be assigned an Academic Standing of PERMANENT PROGRAM WITHDRAWAL, and will be ineligible to continue your program. If you have a PERMANENT PROGRAM WITHDRAWAL Standing for failing a course for the third time and request to transfer to another program at Ryerson, you must ensure that the specific course is not required in the new program as you will not be permitted to enroll in the course for a fourth time. If you fail an elective course for the third time, you will be required to clear the requirements of that elective group by enrolling in a different course within the same group.
