Ryerson offers many opportunities for you to "internationalize" your studies towards your career. Contact www.ryerson.ca/gointernational for detailed information on exchange programs, policies and procedures. What is a formal exchange? A signed agreement between institutions allowing Ryerson students to enroll at a partner university, and vice versa. The Partner university allows selected students to enroll at Ryerson. Students remain enrolled at their home university while on exchange, and therefore do not have to apply for re-admission. Types of Exchanges Ryerson Specific School/Faculty Specific: The majority of exchanges at Ryerson are School/Faculty to School/Faculty. The exchange is open only to students enrolled in the particular school of faculty. University Wide: All students may be considered for the programs of study offered in this category provided they meet certain eligibility requirements. Some of the "study tours/seminars" may not be eligible for credit. Check with your School. Letter of Permission When you choose to attend a university that does not have an "official exchange" with Ryerson, courses must be pre-approved on a Letter of Permission in order to transfer credits back to Ryerson. This option allows you to attend almost any degree-granting university, however, you may end up paying International Student tuition fees. Letter of Permission forms are available at Enrollment Services and Student Fees. As well, this requires much more effort and co-ordination on your part. With this agreement, course equivalencies are determined in advance and the student accepts all the responsibility for arranging a period of study overseas and for ensuring that an officially certified transcript is sent to Ryerson. Within three (3) months of completing the approved course, you must submit a paper-based Transfer Credit application form. Transfer credits are recorded on a student's record as CRT, and will not be calculated in the Grade Point Average. The fee for each Letter of Permission is $40 (subject to change). Length of Exchange? Depending on the agreement, exchanges can be one-term in length or, as long as an entire academic year. Study tours/seminars are of a shorter period. Course Load Students will be expected to enroll in a normal course load which is typically a full-time load as published in the undergraduate calendar. Transfer Credit Students are expected to return to Ryerson to complete their degree studies. Credit will be granted for Ryerson approved courses successfully completed (with appropriate grades) completed at the host university. It is the students' responsibility to obtain an officially certified transcript from their host university and follow up with a Transfer Credit application within three (3) months of returning to Ryerson. Costs Tuition: With Ryerson specific exchanges, each student pays tuition fees to Ryerson, subject to the established methods, payment deadlines and service charges, as would normally be paid if the student was spending the academic year at Ryerson. Students are responsible for all other expenses such as books, stationery, laboratory equipment, etc. Accommodation: The majority of the exchange agreements require the students to be responsible for finding their own accommodation. However, many of the partner universities have their own residence hall accommodations with associated costs. Travel: Students are responsible for their health insurance, travel expenses, and arrangements.
