The Library and Archives

Where is the Library and how do I find my way around it?

The entrance to the Library is on the second floor of the Library building at 350 Victoria Street.

The second floor provides access to many key service points - Research help, IT support, and the Circulation and Reserve. The Ronald D. Besse Information and Learning Commons provides access to approximately 140 computer workstations for student use. Laptops are also available for loan. The Geospatial Map and Data Centre, the Writing Centre and peer strategists from the Learning Success Centre are also located on the second floor. The Math Assistance Centre is located on the 5th floor.

Every Fall and Winter there are workshops to help you learn how to use the Library. Schedules are posted on the Library website at www.library.ryerson.ca. We encourage you to take advantage of this service.

What card do I need to borrow items from the Library?

All you need is one card— the Ryerson OneCard (See Taking Care of Business: Identification Cards).

If you are a new full- or part-time program student, you will be issued a Ryerson OneCard during course enrollment week. This card must be picked up during the first year of attendance.

New and returning students are automatically activated in the Library system, provided they have enrolled in a timely manner. Students enrolling late should validate their card in-person. You are responsible for all transactions on your card. Lending it is prohibited.

If your OneCard/Library Card is lost or stolen, you should report it immediately.

What do I need to access the Library's electronic resources from off-campus?

A valid my.ryerson account is required to access electronic resources from off-campus. You will be asked to enter your my.ryerson username and password when you try to access e-resources from the Library website.

How do I get help learning how to use the Library?

Research help is available on the 2nd floor most hours of Library operation to assist students with their research and general inquiries. Workshops are available each term to help develop your research skills. If you need assistance with your research while off-campus, you can connect to our live "chat" reference service, email us, or telephone 416-979-5055 and choose option #3. See www.ryerson.ca/library/ask.html for more information.

How can I access my Library account?

You can check your account and renew books by choosing the 'Check Your File' option on the Library website. You can keep track of your library transactions, renew books, check holds, and view fines. The Library will e-mail a courtesy notice in advance of items becoming due as well as overdue fine notices if there is a current e-mail address on file.

Where can I study in the Library?

Individual quiet study is available on floors 6, 7 and 9 with the 10th floor reserved for silent study.

Floors 4, 5 and 8 allow for group study

Quiet group study is permitted in group study rooms (bookings must be made online via the Study Room Booking module from the Library website) and at open tables on floors 5, 7 and 8.

Access to study space will increase dramatically with the building of the new Student Learning Centre on Yonge Street, which is expected to be completed by 2013.

More detailed information about the Library's collections, policies and services is available at www.library.ryerson.ca
