We encourage you to maintain regular attendance to make the best of your academic performance. However, if unavoidable circumstances cause you to miss classes for more than a few days. The Undergraduate Academic Consideration and Appeals Policy requires that you inform your instructor(s) and ask for consideration as soon as a situation which may affect your work arises. Be sure to read the revised Course Management Policy (Policy 145) and the outlines of your courses. Attendance may be part of the requirement. Does your department/school have rules about informing them of your absence? Your program department/school will let you know if they have any special rules to follow when you miss school. Be sure to follow any guidelines they have provided in the department/school handbook or any other information you have received from your department/school. What if I miss a test? If your absence falls at a time when you have tests or assignments due, you must contact the professor(s) involved to let them know you will be absent. You will need to discuss when you can write the test you missed or hand in the assignment. Once again, be prepared to provide appropriate verification of illness within three (3) working days. Please see Academic Matters: Examinations. Will you be missing classes where attendance is required? If attendance and/or participation is part of a mark for a course, your professor should inform you at the beginning of the term what you need to do when you have to miss classes. Usually an official written medical certificate or other documentation within three (3) working days, will ensure that you are not penalized for an unavoidable absence.
How can you find out what you missed? Borrow the notes from other students in the classes you missed to find out what was covered and visit the professors during their office hours. If you have any questions about what you missed (any questions at all), talk to the professor(s)! ![]() | ||
