Student awards at Ryerson are administered centrally through the Student Financial Assistance Office. In addition to entrance scholarships, many awards are available after you have completed your first year. For a complete listing of awards available to Ryerson students, see their website at www.ryerson.ca/currentstudents/awards. What kinds of awards are available to Ryerson students? Departmental/School Awards Many departmental/school awards are based on academic performance, so students do not apply for them. However, you may have to apply for those with criteria besides academic performance. Enquire at your department/school for details. RYERSON AWARDS Ryerson offers a number of awards. Five of the most prestigious, among many others are: Governor General's Silver Medal: For the two graduating students with the highest CGPA in an undergraduate degree program. Ryerson Gold Medals: Open to graduating undergraduate degree students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement (CGPA 3.67) and extensive participation in co-curricular and/or extra-curricular activities. One award per Faculty. Students cannot self apply. Brian Segal Award: Open to full-time undergraduate students who have completed at least one year of full-time study, have a good academic record (CGPA 3.00) and who have made an outstanding contribution to the cultural and/or athletic life of Ryerson. Errol Aspevig Undergraduate Award: To recognize a student whose third-year academic performance is outstanding and whose understanding of their studies is significantly enriched by a grasp of such broader intellectual contexts as culture, history, science, the environment, and/or others the student might choose. Must achieve a term GPA of 3.00 in each of the first four semesters of the program and a CGPA of 3.67 at the end of the fifth semester and at the end of the sixth semester. George Vari Award for Good Citizenship To recognize a student who has made outstanding extracurricular contributions to university life, to their school or academic department, or to Ryerson as a whole, and has achieved a CGPA of 3.50.
