OFFICE OF THE VICE PROVOST, STUDENTS

Ryerson University is very committed to supporting student success. The Office of the Vice Provost, Students (OVPS) includes services, facilities and programs designed to provide service to students, help solve problems, enrich the learning environment, and engage students in the Ryerson community.

The Vice Provost, Students is the senior administrator in the University and is responsible for student support services and student issues. Over 300 full- and part-time and student staff works within units reporting to the OVPS providing service to students, university departments and partners, and prospective students and their families.

Along with Ryerson Aboriginal Student Services (www.ryerson.ca/aboriginal), the Student Conduct Office (www.ryerson.ca/studentcode) and, the Student Services Advisory Committee SSAC (www.ryerson.ca/studentservices/SSAC.html), the units reporting to the OVPS include:

Services for Students in the Ted Rogers School of Management (TRSM)

The Services for Students team is here in the Ted Rogers School of Management to support your success in and out of the classroom. Services include tutoring, peer learning support, and facilitated study groups. You can also drop by the Student Resource Centre to learn about services, clubs and events offered on campus.

Library Research Advisory Office

Finding information efficiently, using it effectively and evaluating the quality of the information are major keys to your academic success. Drop-in to TRS-2-168 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., Monday to Friday. Speak with a Librarian and learn how to access the many resources and services available at your Library. General research help for all disciplines of study is also available.

Where can I get help to improve my marks?

The Learning Success Centre (LSC) offers services and resources to help all students reach their academic potential. Topics include skills for essay writing, time management, test preparation, group work, oral presentations; managing test anxiety; and understanding your unique learning style.

English Language Support

Students who use English as an additional language, can access free services including one-on-one sessions, classroom instruction, on-line and distance learning modules to help refine their writing, speaking, presentation and reading and listening skills.

Orientation Activities

Orientation is a wonderful way to transition into the Ryerson University campus community! Orientation Week runs from Monday, August 27 to Friday, August 31 inclusive, and is packed with amazing events and information sessions to get you connected. Don't forget to check out the Pre-Orientation and Post-Orientation activities for more chances to meet people and the various student clubs and services that are here to support you.

Is funding available for student initiatives?

Yes! The Project Funding Allocation Committee for Students (P-FACS) is administered by Student Life Programs and consists of students representing all faculties and student unions at Ryerson. The committee allocates funds for various student projects that will enhance student life, increase Ryerson's reputation, and help develop a sense of community at Ryerson. There is also funding available to renovate student lounge space on campus.

Where can I get help with running a student event on or off campus?

The Student Event Management system is available online. By completing the form you will not only receive valuable input from Ryerson staff that will help you run a safe event for your participants, but you will also receive event planning support, and confirmation of your on-campus room booking. The form should be completed by the organizer and submitted to POD-61 at least seven business days before the event. Questions? Please do not hesitate to contact us.

Can I get information about employment?

Career Development and Employment Centre

The Career Development and Employment Centre (CDEC) provides students and alumni access to a wide range of resources to help prepare for, and look for, work in today's ever changing labour market. The career services program is geared towards all students, regardless of year of study, in need of help choosing a career path, becoming job ready, or identifying job opportunities

Some Programs and Services include :

In depth one to one resume and cover letter advising appointments with Peer Resume Advisors;

Confidential one to one employment and career counselling appointments with CDEC employment Counsellors or the Faculty of Arts Career Counsellor;

Interactive Workshops, facilitated by Career and Employment counselors, on many topics including self assessment, career planning, finding work, self marketing, portfolio development and resume and interview preparation;

Revealing events that connect students and alumni with employers to discuss career options, job opportunities, and/or workplace tips including career, job and information fairs, company information sessions or tables, guest speakers and career panels;.

A well rounded career services website (www.ryerson.ca/career) including labour market information for each program of study at Ryerson, six (6) e-tutorials, job search resources/tools, and on-campus job postings for students/alumni;

An active off-campus job postings website (www.ryerson.ca/career/ryecareervault) including various full- and part-time and summer positions;

A student focused and interactive blog featuring video and articles produced by staff on a wide range of workplace and career topics for students entering the workforce (http://thejobspot.ryerson.ca);

A full Career Resource Centre featuring print and online resources on the subject of job search tools and techniques, career exploration, post-graduate studies, and travelling abroad;.

Career Resource Centre

Located in the Podium, room POD-60A, the Centre houses an extensive collection of print, electronic and multi-media resources related to educational and career planning, as well as job search tools and techniques. The range of materials include business, educational and alumni directories, work, study and travel abroad resources, career exploration guides, as well as career descriptions.
