Hours: Monday - Thursday 10 am - 6 pm Friday 9 am - 5 p.m CESAR provides its members with advocacy and services, with the aim to achieve a just, equitable, and affordable post-secondary education experience. CESAR members benefit from cost-saving services, lobbying and advocacy work that improve the student experience. As local 105 of the Canadian Federation of Students, CESAR members pool their resources with over 500,000 students across Ontario and Canada through the Canadian Federation of Students (www.cfs-fcee.ca). Visit the office located in the Student Centre Lobby at 55 Gould Street, or contact the Member Services Office (MSO) at 416-979-5000 x 2358 CESAR General Bursary Bursaries are offered every academic term and are available online on our website www.mycesar.ca. Please review criteria on our website prior to applying. Students who apply for the bursary must be registered in a Chang School continuing education course during the term applying, and cannot be full-time undergraduate or graduate student. Deadlines for 2012/2013: Fall 2012: Friday, November 2 at noon Winter 2013: Friday, March 1 at noon Spring 2013: Friday, May 24 at noon Summer 2013: Friday, July 12 at noon Course Evaluation Database Search for a professor that best suits your learning needs by accessing the CESAR course evaluation database. During each term, CESAR representatives visit each class following midterms, to conduct the student friendly assessment of the course and make results publicly accessible by both students and instructors. If you are in a course that is less than 14 weeks long, please contact the CESAR office to make arrangements to send an evaluation package to your instructor. Student Advocacy Service Ryerson students have academic rights and access to students' union representation. Students have a right to fair treatment from professors and the University, including fair procedures in the administration of all methods of evaluation. If you feel you have been treated unfairly and wish to appeal a grade in an assignment or test, you have a right to do so. Free Legal Service CESAR offers free legal services to its members through its in-house lawyer every Tuesday evening. If you're a CESAR student, you're eligible to meet with the lawyer to discuss any personal legal issue, ranging from family law matters through landlord and tenant, employment or debt problems to criminal charges, as well as accident claims, immigration applications and other dealings with the government, and corporate, commercial or intellectual property issues. Please contact the CESAR office to schedule a visit. Tax Clinic CESAR, in conjunction with the Ryerson Students' Union holds an annual free tax clinic for all Ryerson students. Dedicated volunteers, trained by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) to do taxes, assist students free of charge in the Winter term. Free Computer Access CESAR has two computers available for general use on the third floor of the Student Campus Centre just inside the CESAR office (SCC-301). We also offer printing services. CESAR Handbook and Day Planner CESAR produces a unique over 200-page guide to introduce CESAR members to student life at Ryerson. The day planner is free for all members and is 100% green, printed on post-consumer paper using vegetable ink, with a biodegradable spine made from corn stalk. It is distributed in your class at the beginning of each semester or a copy can be picked up from our office. The planner also contains a StudentSaver Card, providing you with student discounts at over 500 businesses in the GTA. Ryerson Free Press Newspaper The Ryerson Free Press is the definitive alternative monthly of the Continuing Education Student's Association of Ryerson University (CESAR). Read the current issue of the paper at www.ryersonfresspress.ca The paper is staffed by a group of students and members of the local community who have expressed an interest in social justice, welfare and access to education issues. The content of the paper is a combination of staff and volunteer contributions from around the world. Over the past 30 years, CESAR members have actively participated and mobilized around important campaigns on and off the Ryerson campus covering issues of social justice, education and equity. REI acts as a practical force for culture change and thought to action enterprise leadership. REI is a university-wide program launched to motivate students and alumni to actively discover new for-profit and non-profit innovations and act on them to start up new businesses, organizations or community programs.
