Office of the Ombudsperson

If You Have A Problem

Office of the Ombudsperson

The Ombudsperson Office is a safe place to get information, advice and assistance with resolving a concern or a conflict. All matters dealt with by the Ombudsperson are handled in strict confidence unless the student involved gives permission for his/her name to be released. The Ombudsperson is impartial and operates independently of the University, including all administrative structures and student government.

When should I contact the Ombudsperson?

If you need information or advice about a University policy or procedure

If you feel that you have been treated unfairly

If you're not sure what to do and don't know where else to turn

What will happen?

The Ombudsperson will listen carefully to your concerns

The Ombudsperson will assist you to identify options and alternatives

The Ombudsperson will assist you to find the information you need

The Ombudsperson may make an informal inquiry if additional information is required

The Ombudsperson may investigate a final decision if fairness issues are identified

The Ombudsperson also has the responsibility to recommend changes in academic and administrative procedures. So if you have experienced or identified academic or administrative problems that you would like to see addressed by the University, please talk to the Ombudsperson about your ideas for making Ryerson a better place for everyone.

While we welcome drop-ins, please keep in mind that if we are already in a meeting with someone, we may have to set up another time to discuss your concerns. Please note that our voice mail and fax machine are confidential and can only be accessed by staff of our Office. We prefer to use e-mail primarily to set up appointments rather than to discuss issues as confidentially cannot be assured over e-mail.
