Add: enroll in a course
Drop: withdraw from a course
Swap: hold your seat in one class until you are successfully enrolled in a new class

You can perform all of these enrollment functions by logging into RAMSS (my.ryerson.ca). RAMSS uses a Shopping Cart-style system to which you are probably accustomed. You can watch the RAMSS Demo and follow the step-by-step instructions available on the Enrollment Services and Student Records website.

Refer to the Significant Dates Table to ensure you add, drop and swap your courses by the published deadline.

Tip: Dropping classes will impact your OSAP funding. You must report these changesto the Student Financial Assistance Office.

Course Intentionis the first part of the enrollment process. You request the courses you expect to take in the upcoming academic year so that a timetable can be produced for you before open course enrollment. All full-time students must participate in the annual course intention process in mid- March for the upcoming academic year. Adjustments can be made to your course intention requests in the spring and fall (See Significant Dates). Your program department will send process and timing details to your Ryerson e-mail account.

You will be assigned a specific date range in which to add, drop and swap classes for the next term. This period of time is known as your Enrollment Appointment. Think of this as a priority enrollment period for students in yourcohort. Log in to RAMSS and select “Enrollment Dates” to confirm your enrollment appointment.

This is the enrollment period that is open to all students, regardless of cohort. In the fall, it starts after the Enrollment Appointment period and continues up until the last day to add a class.

You are academically and financially responsible for all courses and charges that accrue as a result of the Course Intention and/or the Open Enrollment processes, unless the Enrollment Services and Student Fees Office is notified in writing within university deadlines (See Significant Dates). These charges also apply to continuing education course enrollments, changes and drops.

Non-attendance/non-payment is not acceptable for the removal of courses and fee charges.

A timetable conflict occurs when two classes are scheduled at the same time or overlap by one hour or more. Contact your program department/school for assistance (see Academic Program Administration Contact directory). Different departments have different procedures for dealing with timetable conflicts.

Some undergraduate courses are available for auditing. This means that you enroll in the course as an “Audit” student, attend lectures and learn the subject, but do not request or receive academic credit.

You need to get permission from the Teaching Department, in advance, to audit a course. Only day lecture courses can be audited; labs and continuing education courses are not available for audit. Also, Audit courses are not eligible for financial assistance. On your Transcript, instead of a grade, the “AUD” designation will be assigned and the audited course is not used in the calculation of your GPA or in your Academic Standing. The Course Audit Formis online and detailed instructions are on the form. Consult the Significant Dates table to ensure that you apply before the published deadlines.

If you wish to take a course at another postsecondary institution for credit towards your Ryerson degree, then you must get permission in advance.

The approval is known as a Letter of Permission. The process can take several days and, depending on the course, may involve the approval of multiple departments. Give yourself plenty of time to get all the necessary approvals.

The request form, along with detailed instructions, regulations, timelines and payment information, is found on the form and also on the Curriculum Advising Website.
