You will be able to access your final grades on RAMSS approximately two weeks after the official end of term. Most of the time, your grades will follow the conventions of the following grading scale:

There are a number of three-letter designations you might see. For example: If you received a transfer credit for a course you took elsewhere, you will see a CRT beside the course number. Similarly, PSD (“Passed”) courses are recorded on your Transcript but are not included in the calculation of your grade point average calculation.

These non-graded designations require action from you:

GradeWhat this meansWhat do I do?
F-S (“Redeemable Failure”)
  • you have marginally failed a course and the instructor is extending an opportunity to write a redeemable failure exam.
  • The F-S grade will be converted only to a ‘D-’ or to an ‘F’, depending on your performance on this exam.
  • contact the teaching department immediately to
    make arrangements to write the new exam.
INC (“Incomplete”)
  • the work you have submitted for a course is at least of passing level, but you have some work to complete or missed the final examination due to medical or compassionate reasons.
  • contact your instructor within three working days or as soon as reasonably possible of the missed examination and petition for an INC grade.
  • get a written statement within seven (7) working
    days telling you what you need to do to complete
    the outstanding work and the date you must hand
    in the work.
  • If you do not hand in the work by the deadline, the
    INC will be changed to an “F”.
GNR (Grade Not Recorded)
  • grades have not been submitted for an entire class.
  • check RAMSS frequently.
  • contact the teaching department within one month of receiving the GNR grade.

A complete list of additional performance designationsis found in the Undergraduate Calendar.

  1. Take the grade points for each grade received at Ryerson and multiply each by its course weight (e.g. a “C” in a course with a weight of one is 2.00, a “C” in a course with a weight of two is 4.00 and add the products;
  2. Add together the course weight for each of the courses taken, except for first attempts of courses you have repeated;
  3. Divide the total grade points by the total course weights and that is your grade point average

GPA Adjustment Request Form

You may choose to repeat a course for the sake of improving upon an earlier unsatisfactory grade. In this situation, each attempt is recorded on your transcript, however, the new grade automatically replaces the old grade in the calculation of your GPA.

A course may be taken up to three times (i.e., enrolled initially, repeated once, repeated twice = three enrollments). If you fail a Required course for the third time, you will be assigned an Academic Standing of Permanent Program Withdrawal.

GPA Adjustment – Course Replacement: This process works for courses on an elective table. Instead of repeating exactly the same course, you may choose instead take a different course from the same elective group (example: Professional, Professionally Related, Open Elective, or Liberal Studies course). Timing is important – you must declare your intention to do this before the final date to add a course for the term in which the Course Replacement applies. In other words, you must submit the GPA Adjustment Request right after you enroll in the adjusting course, several weeks before it is graded.

GPA Adjustment – Course Exclusion: If you are taking an extra course that is not applicable to your program requirements and you wish to have this course excluded from your GPA calculation, then request a Course Exclusion. Again, timing is an issue and you must submit the GPA Adjustment Request before the final date to add a course for the term in which the Course Exclusion applies.

Complete the GPA Adjustment Form and submit it to Enrollment Services and Student Recordsfor approval and processing. Be sure to consult the Significant Dates Table as GPA Adjustments must be requested before the last day to add a class.
