You must successfully complete all program requirements as prescribed by Senate in order to graduate with a degree or certificate.

You apply to graduate when you are enrolled in your final classes. For example, if you plan to graduate in June, you would apply to graduate right after you have enrolled in all of your Winter term classes. Application deadlines are strictly enforced. Consult the Significant Dates Table.

The requirements for graduation are outlined in detail in the Undergraduate Calendar and in Senate Policy 46 Policy on Undergraduate Grading, Promotion, and Academic Standing (pdf). See Essential Policy Highlights.

Briefly, in order to graduate you must:

  1. Successfully complete all of the program requirements set out in your curriculum by Senate (see Academic Advisement Report)
  2. Have a cumulative grade point average of 1.67 or higher;
  3. Complete your program within the allotted timespan;
  4. Meet the residency requirements;
  5. Be admitted to and active in the program from which you are graduating; and
  6. Meet all academic standing variations and graduation variations that may apply to your program.

In addition to fulfilling Ryerson’s program-wide Graduation Requirements (Policy #46 in Essential Policy Highlights) students in the following programs must meet additional conditions:

  • Child and Youth Care
  • Midwifery
  • Nursing
  • Nutrition and Food
  • Social Work

Consult the Undergraduate calendar for complete details about these additional requirements.

If you have applied and are eligible to graduate, you will be invited to attend Convocation. Convocation ceremonies are held in the Spring and Fall of each year. Complete details are found on the Convocation website.

Whether you plan on attending your graduation ceremony or not, you must apply to graduate. Certificates and degrees are conferred to you at your convocation ceremony. If you will not be attending in-person, you may obtain your award document/parchment after the ceremony by the following methods:

  1. pick-it up in person at Podium POD-64 during the pick-up period after Convocation;
  2. sending your proxy to pick it up on your behalf during the pick-up period;
  3. by having it mailed to you.
