Why Live in Residence? There are plenty of places to live in downtown Toronto, so why do people choose to live in residence? Residence has lots of advantages over off-campus living. Discover them for yourself in residence at Ryerson!

Community. The community that residence provides is one of its biggest advantages over off-campus living. When you move into residence, you move into a building full of students who are all looking forward to meeting new people and making new friends! These new acquaintances, along with our Residence Life Staff, will be your support network as you adjust to university life.

Academic Support. Many students find university academics challenging at first. In residence, we have staff members to help you succeed! Each residence student has an Academic Link who answers any questions you may have about: classes, enrollments, or how to ace that final exam.

School Pride. Living on-campus will immerse you into the residence community and the Ryerson community at large. Whether you are at a residence event, participating in intramural sports, or having a coffee on-campus with a friend, you will feel your Rye Pride start to grow!

Security. Toronto is a big city, but it seems a little smaller when you have a safe and secure home to go back to at the end of the day! Our Residence Service Desk staff monitor building access 24/7 to make sure our residence buildings are as safe as can be.

Convenience. Living in residence is easy! Being on-campus, you don’t have to worry about the hassle of commuting; all of your classes are right outside your doorstep!

The Walk Safe Program provides you with a protected escort by security officers or supervisors 24 hours a day to any location on the Ryerson campus, to the Dundas subway or to specific parking lots near campus. To request an escort, call security at 416-979-5040 or by pressing the yellow button on any campus payphone or ext.5040 from any internal phone.

While on campus, you can connect to the Internet using Ryerson's free wireless service. The service is available in designated Wireless Zones covering most common areas such as student lounges, cafeterias, Ryerson Library and most large open spaces around campus. Students living in residence, ILLC or Pitman Hall may access the Internet from their rooms via ResNet, Ryerson's Ethernet (wired) network.
