This Code defines academic misconduct, the processes the University will follow when academic misconduct is suspected and the consequences that can be imposed if students are found to be guilty of misconduct.

The Code lists, in a non-exhaustive manner, actions which the University considers to be non-academic misconduct offences and the range of remedies and/or penalties which may be imposed. The code also describes the role of the Student Conduct Officer and outlines the processes of complaints, investigations, hearings, resolution paths and appeals.

This Policy explains the process by which students request academic consideration. Examples include:

  • accommodation for a disability or illness;
  • extension of a deadline for an assignment;
  • arrangements for missed exam;
  • re-weighting or regrading of an examination or assignment;
  • permission to continue on probationary status.

The Policy also outlines the steps you need to take when filing a Grade or Academic Standing Appeal. There are four grounds that may be considered for Grade and Academic Standing Appeals: Medical; Compassionate; Prejudice; and Procedural Error. Course Management may also be considered as grounds for grade appeals.

Every effort is made to:

  • schedule exams as fairly as possible for each student across the available time frame;
  • ensure that students will not be required to write more than two exams in one calendar day (subject to exceptional circumstances);

The Student Responsibilities section of this Policy outlines all of the expectations and rules applicable to students during exams, including:

  • what you can and cannot bring with you to an exam;
  • what time to show up; what to do if you are late;
  • what to do if you are ill;
  • acceptable forms of photo ID;
  • using the washroom during an exam;
  • reporting a schedule conflict with a religious observance;
  • accommodations for students with disabilities.

A Minor consists of six one-semester courses in an approved curriculum. A Minor must be completed before graduation. This Policy explains which courses can be applied to a Minor and which cannot.

Misuse of any Ryerson computing resources is an offence. Students may have their accounts suspended and access to the labs revoked. Offences will also be dealt with under the Student Code of Non-Academic Conduct. In addition, any tampering with or unauthorized use of Ryerson’s computing resources is a crime under the Criminal Code of Canada.
