Frequently Asked Questions for Students

Documentation

  • What if I only have an old assessment, or an IEP with no assessment?
You can book a meeting with a Facilitator to discuss options for getting an updated assessment completed, but depending on date of assessment or IEP, we may not be able to provide accommodations until a full assessment is received.

Confidentiality

  • What if my mom or dad calls to find out how I am doing, or if I am using my accommodations?
Under our confidentiality agreement, unless specified otherwise, we cannot respond.

  • What do you do with my personal information/documentation (i.e. storage and use of confidential material)?
Your confidentiality is important to us and we hold all of your AC information in strict confidence. Your documentation is kept in a file in one of our locked file cabinets in the Access Centre, which are only accessible to our staff members. Your personal contact and accommodation information is stored on a specific Access Centre specific database also only accessible to the Access Centre staff members.

  • Will my Access Centre registration appear on my transcript or otherwise be known by future schools or employers?
No.  Because your information will appear only on our database, nothing will be put on your transcripts to identify you as an Access Centre registrant. We will not notify any future schools or workplaces to let them know of your registration or accommodations, unless you give us written permission to do so (some students will choose to go on to graduate school, and request that we forward along their documentation, in which case you would need to sign a release to let us do that).

Funding

  • If I am taking a semester off, can I apply for the equipment early to be ready for the next semester?
Funds are only available to students in the semester in which the expense is incurred AND where the student is registered in classes.

  • What if I am not OSAP eligible?
If you are not OSAP eligible then you will not qualify for the CSG-CDSE or BSWD, however you can explore other funding options through the Ryerson listing of scholarships and awards.
