English Communication Support (ECS) Classes

English Communication Support classes (ECS) enhance the speaking component of credit courses and are intended for Ryerson students who use English as an additional language. These non-credit support classes are grounded in principles of effective academic speaking practice, from a linguistic perspective. They may be tied to content in certain program areas.

During the Fall & Winter semesters, ECS classes are offered as a co-curricular element of the LNG-111 course (Department of English). ECS classes enhance the speaking skills of multilingual students, as well as giving students enrolled in LNG-111 an opportunity to better understand the course content through discussion activities and in-class presentations.

Although some content is tied to LNG-111, ECS classes are open to all Ryerson students who use English as an additional language.

ECS classes will resume in September 2012

  • Please Note: Each class is approximately 2 hours and runs for 8 weeks.
  • Location: VIC-B9A (Lower level of the Victoria Building)
  • If registration has closed, please email els@ryerson.ca

If you are a student in LNG-111 and are unable to attend an ECS section, your LNG-111 instructor will give you an alternate assignment.
