Support for Graduate Students

All Ryerson graduate students, regardless of first language, are welcome to use the services for Graduate Student Support.

One-to-one writing assistance
Focussing on graduate-level writing, including dissertations, grant applications, journal articles, literature reviews, reports, and others. When you make an appointment, please make a note of the location. These sessions are offered at different locations on the campus.

Individualized presentation skills practice
The opportunity to practise a talk while being videotaped. The presenter may use presentation software and will be evaluated by a staff member, who will give feedback on how to improve the presentation. The presenter may take a copy of the presentation on his/her USB.

For graduate students who are non-native speakers of English, the folowing programs offered by English Language Support may be useful:

Conversation Partners: Individualized pronunciation, conversation, reading & listening practice - book appointments through the ELS website.

Distance Learning:

Pronunciation practice
Computer-assisted pronunciation practice

Technical reading practice
Reading exercises in various fields of study focussing on improving comprehension, reading speed, and the understanding of technical language and problem comprehension.

Listening practice
Listening exercises in various fields of study and at several levels of difficulty, designed to help the listener identify and focus on important points and judge the levels of importance of information in a talk while taking notes. A staff member supervises. Location: Victoria Building, Room B-9A.
