Living Learning Communities
A Living Learning Community (LLC) is a place to live and to learn! A place where students link their interests and what they have learned in the classroom with the world around them. Each community is housed on a floor within residence, and is a unique place for students to live and call home.
There are five gender-inclusive Living Learning Communities (LLCs) designed to encourage connection among students by bringing them together based on personal interests and academic pursuits.
The LLC experience is centered on social and educational activities facilitated by Residence Life Staff, as well as opportunities to connect to the community on campus and beyond. Each year, the experience in each LLC is driven by the interest and initiative of the residents.
If you are interested to be a part of an LLC, please complete an LLC application in addition to your Residence Application. We will do our best to accommodate all applicants that wish to join an LLC; however, this will depend on the number of available rooms.
Here are the Living Learning Communities that are being offered for the 2013-2014 academic year:
Themed LLCs
Healthy Living
Interested in health and wellness? Students in this LLC will be interested in various aspects of leading active and healthy lifestyles. They will have after-hours access to Ryerson athletics facilities, and programs regarding mental and physical health (such as the Movember campaign and cooking demonstrations). Bring your ideas and passion for a balanced, active lifestyle with the world around you in your new home!
Leadership
Were you involved in a leadership role in your high school? Interested in further developing your leadership skills and getting involved on campus and in the Greater Toronto community? Students in this LLC will be interested in all aspects of leadership. They will have various opportunities to take on leadership roles in Residence and explore volunteering that benefits the community beyond Residence. Come together with other students who feel your passion and create a great year!
Academic LLCs
Fashion
Are you a student in the School of Fashion or have an interest in the fashion industry? Students in this LLC will have the opportunity to make valuable connections with faculty members in the School of Fashion, upper-year fashion students and industry professionals. In addition to living with other fashion students, they will have drafting tables in a lounge on their floor to help them complete their academic work. Being part of this community is a great way to be grounded in your program and explore the fashion industry!
Community Services
Are you a student in the Faculty of Community Services? Come live with a community of students working towards serving and being agents of change in their community! This unique community will bring together students studying Early Childhood Studies, Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Nursing, Nutrition, Occupational and Public Health, and Urban and Regional Planning. There will be opportunities for these students to engage further with the faculty and connect what they are learning in class with experiences in the Greater Toronto community.
Entrepreneurship & Innovation (NEW for 2013-2014)
Are you a student in the Ted Rogers School of Management or are interested in innovation and developing your entrepreneurship skills? Ryerson is known for being on the forefront of innovation and supporting entrepreneurial initiatives. Come connect with this culture and live with others interested in being tomorrow's leaders. Students will have the chance to connect with groups on campus such as Enactus Ryerson and the Digital media Zone throughout the year. As this is the inaugural year for this LLC, participants will have the unique opportunity to shape what happens with this community for the future!
