Residence Council

Student Housing Services - Rez Council

One of the best ways to be active in residence is to become involved in your Residence Council and Floor or House Council.

The Ryerson Residence Council is on of the largest student organizations at Ryerson University.  The council is comprised of a President, three Vice-Presidents, and seven other executives, and twenty two Floor Presidents.

The Executive includes senior students who are returning to Residence either as a second, third or fourth year student.  They work throughout the year to plan large scale residence wide events, offer services and help make you feel at home.

The Floor Presidents are committed to making residence more than just a place to live.  Floor Presidents are enthusiastic student leaders who are eager to build a strong floor community and create an eventful first year residence experience for the students on their floors.  Through collaboration with other council members, Floor Presidents will be actively involved in the creation of their own events and traditional residence-wide events.

Although they may vary a little from building to building, the Councils consist of the following positions:

  • Floor President, who oversees Floor Council.
  • Vice President, who helps the Floor President, organizes events, celebrate birthdays etc.
  • Events Rep, who helps to organize residence wide events working on the Events Committee.
  • Food Services Rep who sits on a committee of students that provides feedback to Cafeterias and Food Services on campus.
  • Sustainability Rep, who sits on a committee that provides student input on the practices in residence and making them more sustainable.

Positions are open to all residents on the floor or in the House, and are filled by election early in September. Councils are an important part of residence life -- in addition to coordinating social activities, they discuss issues related not only to the floor, but also to the entire residence system. They are a vital tool to communicate your thoughts and present your ideas for improving residence life.
