Meet the People

LSC Coordinator

Gretchen Bingham

Gretchen joined the Learning Success Centre in the Fall of 2005 as a Learning Strategist. Now as Coordinator, she brings to the role a passion for creativity and a breadth of knowledge and experience in human development. Her previous international consulting practice focused on developing individual and organizational creativity. As a learning specialist, she is currently focused on strengthening the overall effectiveness of programming that supports students’ academic success. Gretchen earned an M.A. in music education at Teachers College, Columbia University , and a M.Sc. in the Faculty of Education at the International Centre for Studies in Creativity, State University of NY at Buffalo , as well as post-graduate certifications in Intercultural Communications and Learning Strategies.

Ted Rogers School of Management

Marlyn Husbands
Marlyn joined the Learning Success Centre team in September 2007. She has a diverse background and brings to the role a passion for personal development. Marlyn is a Ryerson graduate from the Information Technology Management program, and has successfully worked in the industry for eight years. She decided to make a career change and completed a Bachelor of Education in Adult Education from Brock University, and a Masters of Arts in Education from Central Michigan University. Prior to joining Ryerson, Marlyn worked as a trainer in the financial industry and volunteered in an Adult Literacy program helping adults enhance their reading and writing skills. Marlyn is highly motivated and enthusiastic about helping students achieve their academic potential.

Iram Khan

Iram Khan joined the Learning Success Centre team in October 2009. Prior to joining Ryerson, she was the Academic Program Director at a language school in Toronto. Iram has an M.A. in English and a post-graduate Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language from Woodsworth College, University of Toronto. She has over ten years of Canadian and international experience in teaching English as well as training language instructors. Iram has extensively taught academic writing, cross-cultural communication and literacy skills. She has also consulted with language schools overseas on EFL course curriculum and program development. She is particularly attuned to equity and diversity issues and the needs of students being educated outside their cultural context.

Chris Cachia

Welcome Chris Cachia to the Learning Success Centre team.  Chris serves on the academic support team for the Faculty of Community Services. He is committed to peer-based, experiential, and active learning, as well as critical pedagogical and anti-oppressive approaches to education.  Chris enjoys his role as instructor at Ryerson’s Chang School of Continuing Education, and the Faculty of Arts, having taught a number of introductory courses, courses in popular culture, everyday life, and peer mentorship.  He formerly worked with Ryerson’s Learning and Teaching Office (LTO) as an Educational Developer focused on teaching and graduate assistant development.  He holds an M.A. in Communications and Culture from Ryerson-York Universities.

Fresh Start and Get Clear Programs

Heather Krepski

Heather Krepski joined the Learning Success Centre team in September 2011 as the point person for the Fresh Start and Get Clear programs. She supports student initiatives from enrolment to completion of the program and provides assistance in determining what areas have affected student achievement to advise students on what services are available in those areas. During her five years of teaching experience, she passionately worked on a student-focused approach to curriculum development and high-yield student success initiatives. She has hosted several demonstration classrooms and workshops on inclusive curriculum and differentiated instruction. She also worked for the Toronto District School Board as a Curriculum Leader of Student Success. Heather received her Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy at the University of Ottawa and Bachelor of Education at the University of Toronto/OISE.
