September is a common time for allergies, and it's important to try and figure out if you're feeling sick because of flu-like symptoms or allergies. Fever is a red flag. Generally, sneezes and a runny nose with clear discharge are more likely signs of an allergy. The combination of sore throat, fever and cough are the most reliable symptoms of H1N1. Play it safe and stay home. The Public Health Agency of Canada recommends students and staff with flu-like illness stay home until they're symptom-free. If you fall ill drink lots of fluids, avoid public gatherings, and seek medical help if your symptoms worsen after getting better or if you experience difficulty breathing. For more information about prevention and treatment visit the Ryerson H1N1 Flu site. For Pandemic information at Ryerson visit the Pandemic website.
