Students

Live2Lead’s primary objective is to cultivate student leaders by providing them with tools and opportunities to put to use in giving back to the their communities (i.e. the Ryerson Community). One of the key ways that this is will be accomplished is through the Tri-Mentoring Program’s Inaugural Live2Lead Conference which will take place at Ryerson University from January 25-26th, 2013.

Chris Betty
CHAIR
Program:
Business Technology Management
Year: 4
Hometown: Ajax, Ontario

Being a long-time member of the Tri-Mentoring program, Chris jumped at the idea to be involved with an initiative all about supporting the community and empowering students. This is because he strongly believes that in a decade or two the student leaders we see in our school halls will be the real change makers of society. As the Chair of the Live2Lead conference, he guarantees that everything about the conference from the logo up has been designed to give people the tools to plot their own direction.

Ghazala Knight
PROJECT MANAGER
Program
: Politics and Governance
Year: 3
Hometown: Calgary, Alberta

If Ghazala can be described in one word, it would be passionate. “I’m in love with the idea of challenging myself and those around me in creating a vision greater than ourselves,” she says. As Live2Lead’s Project Manager, she hopes to extend the Tri-Mentoring Program’s message of students exceeding their capabilities to the greater Ryerson community. She hopes students come away from this conference knowing they have the power to be forces of change, not just in their own life and community, but also in the global community.

Asha

Asha Mullings
EVENTS & LOGISTICS
Program:
Child and Youth Care
Year: 3
Hometown: Toronto, Ontario

From a fast food attendant, call centre clerk and even a butcher, Asha has done and coordinated it all when it comes to jobs. So it’s only natural that she be the V.P. of Events & Logistics for the Live2Lead conference. She hopes that participants come away from the conference knowing that they don’t have to be a certain age to be a leader. “Anyone, at any age, can create something ingenious once they’ve unlocked their potential,” she says.

Jacklyn

Jaclyn Ursula Scheffer
PROGRAMMING
Program:
Social Work
Year: 5
Hometown: Scarborough, Ontario

When it comes to leadership work Jaclyn is no stranger. She leads her own girls group in Scarborough, called Rise Above, which promotes the empowerment of women. As the V.P. of Programming Jaclyn hopes to ensure there’s a wide range of topics covered during the conference and the diversity of Ryerson is taken into consideration. She’s most excited about the First Generation event happening on the Friday of the conference week. “It’s going to be a totally different atmosphere than people are used to from our FG events,” she says.

Melissa

Melissa Ryan
FINANCE
Program:
Business Management (Accounting Major)
Year: 3
Hometown: Toronto, Ontario
As the V.P. of Finance, Melissa ensures the Live2Lead executive team keeps the budget in balance. But it isn’t just all about sponsorship packages and numbers. This is the first conference Melissa has planned, so it’s as much about meeting new people, expanding networks and making her mark. She also hopes to raise awareness about the Tri-Mentoring Program around campus.

Tharsy

Tharsy Selvananthan
ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
Program:
Business Management (Global Management Major)
Year: 4
Hometown: Scarborough, Ontario

For Tharsy, being on the Live2Lead conference executive committee means leaving her mark on Ryerson. As the Administrative Assistant for the conference, she keeps the ever busy team on track and organized so the conference runs without a hitch. The fourth year business management student hopes that participants realize their potential to be leaders and the impact they can have on the community.

Sasha

Alexander Protsenko
PUBLIC RELATIONS
Program
: Arts & Contemporary Studies
Year: 4
Hometown: Kharkov, Ukraine

“Expect the unexpected.” This is Alexander’s preview of the Live2Lead conference. As an aspiring publicist, it’s only natural that he’s the V.P. of Public Relations. He hopes participants leave inspired to be leaders and excited to push their boundaries – something Alexander’s been thinking a lot about as he gets closer to graduation. And of course, as a PR guru, he hopes the conference raises awareness about the Tri-Mentoring Program.

Janakan

Janakan Srimurugan
MARKETING
Program:
Graphic Communications Management
Year: 3
Hometown: Toronto, Ontario

With experience in design, web and marketing, Janakan is the perfect fit as Live2Lead’s V.P. of Marketing Unlike other leadership conferences that load on the inspiration but go light giving the right tools for experience, Janakan thinks that the Live2Lead conference will put students in a position to exercise and develop the necessary qualities of great leaders. What can participants expect at the conference? Janakan just has this to show http://bit.ly/RImAqg
