School of Urban and Regional Planning

Urban Development (Master of Planning)
Degree Requirements
Students with an educational background in planning or design and a significant number of years of relevant professional experience in planning are expected to complete the program within 12 months (three terms) as full-time students. Non-planning students will take five terms to finish the degree requirements. The curriculum is designed to correspond to the field of study for the program with studio-based learning as its backbone. Core courses within the curriculum address complementary theories related to urban development. Through the five integrated literacies described earlier, the curriculum provides an integrated approach to conceptual knowledge and practical skills necessary for working with issues at both micro and macro scales. The curriculum is conceived in such a way that students can exercise analytic ability, professional judgment, research ability and an advanced level of planning intervention.
The Yeates School of Graduate Studies' minimum residency requirement for the MPl (2 Year Stream) is five terms and for the MPl (1 Year Stream) is three terms. Each academic year is three terms. Continuous enrollment throughout the residency period is required.
