Mitchell Kosny is a past Director of the School of Planning.  In 1997, he was a visiting Professor at the Fachhochschule Frankfurt am Main and in 2001 was appointed Guest Professor at the Shanghai College of Urban Management.  He has a strong record of involvement outside of classroom in many facets of Toronto’s non-governmental organization sector, and works in areas of governance, capacity-building, and strategic planning/management.  Throughout the 1990’s, he has been active in many CIDA-sponsored efforts teaching strategic planning to senior level planners, community leaders, and politicians from Indonesia, Latvia, Russia, Ukraine, and China: and leading local government capacity building projects in South Africa, Nambia, Lithuania, and Palestine.  He has also acted as a consultant to Human Resources Development Canada in developing a unique ($1.1M) Community Economic Development/Homeless program in Toronto.  His international planning efforts have resulted in several Exchange Agreements and research projects between the School and universities in the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany and China.  Dr. Kosny is also involved with municipal issues and the political scene in Toronto and has been President-Social Planning Council of Metropolitan Toronto; Member-Mayor’s Harbourfront Review Committee; Chair-City of Toronto Planning Advisory Committee; and recently served as Chair of the Toronto Community housing Corporation.  He is currently a member of the Union Station Revitalization Public Advisory Group  - Toronto.
