School of Urban and Regional Planning

Welcome to 2013-14!
RAPS would like to take this opportunity to welcome you back, both to Ryerson, and to the South Bond Building. For those of you entering first year, congratulations and welcome to the School of Urban and Regional Planning!
The Ryerson Association of Planning Students (RAPS) is the Course Union Affiliate of the Ryerson Student Union that represents School of Urban and Regional Planning (SURP) Students here at Ryerson University. We are an elected body of students representing the interests of the SURP student body through a variety of events and programming, both inside, and outside of the South Bond Building.
RAPS hosts networking events and socials, and works to establish partnerships with adjacent schools of study, such as Public Administration, Geographical Analysis, and Architecture. Planning is inherently an interdisciplinary field. We will continue to host tutorials and lectures, embrace new technologies, and we encourage contributions of innovative ideas.
Ryerson is proud to (co-)host two conferences this coming school year: The Waterloo-Ryerson Conference and Social in January 2014, and CAPS-ACÉAU, the national student planning conference which will be hosted by Ryerson, York, and the University of Toronto in February 2014!
RAPS will be busy this year, and we need your help. We will be putting calls out for nominations for our First Year Rep, our PLAB / PLAD Rep, and our Vice President Administration, which will be elected by you, the students of SURP, in our Fall By-Election in September. We will also be calling for volunteers for both of the conferences we mentioned earlier, so stay tuned for more rewarding volunteer opportunities!
The influence of political and legal establishments prescribe our path, but they do not dictate its direction. Victor Hugo once said, “Change your opinions, keep to your principles; change your leaves, keep intact your roots.” Toronto is experiencing a rapid period of growth and this year’s council intends to keep pace with it.
We’re honoured and excited to be your Co-Presidents of 2013-2014,
Derek Pokora and George Robinson
