What type of student are you?
Full-time-you have a maximum of eight years to complete your 42 course degree requirement. You are restricted to a maximum of 7 courses a semester.
Part-time-you have a maximum of fourteen years to complete your 42 course degree requirement. You are restricted to three courses per semester.
Advanced standing/Transfer student- you have completed one or more years at another accredited post-secondary institution or at Ryerson, you may be eligible for Advanced Standing (admission to a level higher than first year/semester) and/or for Transfer Credit.
Direct Entry Full-time and Part-time -you have received Direct Entry (advanced standing) into the third year of our program. This means that you have already declared a Major/Plan to complete your degree and will be responsible for completing all of the courses in semesters 5-8 and pre-determined reachbacks.
Special Business student-you have completed an undergraduate degree and are now pursuing an accounting designation.
Special Business Student Status
Prospective students wishing to be considered for Special Business Student authorization, MUST FIRST email the following to Nicole Hillmer, Departmental Assistant, Accounting Department (nicole.hillmer@ryerson.ca):
- Scan of official or unofficial transcript (showing first and last name, institution name, and proof of degree and prerequisite course completion).
- Proof of enrolment or assessment from a designation that requires this course.
- Courses code and course name of the course(s) you are required to take
You will be notified of the Accounting Department decision by email. DO NOT submit your online Ryerson Application unless you have received email approval from the Accounting Department.

The following 6 courses are available to special business students, pending;
1. Space availability: enrollment is limited and preference is given to students enrolled in a Ryerson degree program.
2. Completion of the below listed course prerequisite(s) or a university level course equivalent (assessment of the equivalency is administered by Ted Rogers School of Business Management, Accounting Department)
All other designation courses may only be completed through the G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education.
ACC 703: Advanced Financial Accounting

ACC 514 - Intermediate Accounting II
ACC 706: Accounting Theory

ACC 801: Intermediate Cost and Management Accounting
Prerequisite:
ACC 414 -Intermediate Accounting I
ACC 803: Advanced Management Accounting
Prerequisite:
ACC 801 -Intermediate Cost and Management Accounting
ACC 821: Advanced Auditing
Prerequisite:
ACC 521 -Auditing
BUS 800: Strategic Management
Prerequisite:
FIN 401 –Managerial Finance II
Direct-Entry Students
