The Practicum Workshop is a one-day workshop held approximately four months before the Practicum semester. All students MUST attend a Practicum workshop before doing the Practicum. Students who plan on completing the Practicum in the fall semester must attend the workshop at the end of April. Those who plan on completing the Practicum in the winter semester, must attend the workshop at the end August. Workshops are usually held on the last Friday of April and August. Students will be sent an email with the dates 2-3 months in advance and asked to RSVP.

Workshop dates for Fall 2017 and Winter 2018 Practicum are as follows.

Fall 2017: Friday April 28, 2017

Winter 2018: Friday August 25, 2017

The Practicum Workshop helps students to understand the practicum process, what is expected of them and how they will benefit from the experience. The practicum guide, which all students will receive, forms the basis for the day’s discussion. The workshop is a great opportunity for students to ask questions and to meet their fellow Practicum students face to face.

Some students feel trepidation about beginning the Practicum. This workshop offers a good opportunity to prepare for the Practicum semester. It is conducted in a relaxed, informative and social manner and is a great opportunity to meet classmates, particularly for students who have taken courses primarily online.

Students from out of province or from a significant distance away from Toronto (e.g., Sault Ste. Marie) have the option to attend using distance learning technology. Students should indicate at the time of signing up for the workshop if they will be attending online, rather than in person.

What to bring to the workshop: Each student will need a notepad and pen or a laptop for note-taking. All students will be provided with the most updated version of the Practicum Guide and Task List for the upcoming Practicum semester.

See you at the next Workshop!

Flexible Schedule

Students in the Health Services Management and Health Information Management programs have the option of taking courses online, in the evening or on weekends. They can also mix the various modes of study.
