Hospitality and Tourism Management
Projects
Over the past three years, the institute has conducted research projects for clients such as Tourism Toronto, Fairmont Hotels, Royal Bank, Wine Council of Ontario and the City of Toronto. Three of our current research projects include:
Tourism Toronto Visitor Surveys
The Tourism Toronto Visitor Survey (TTVS) was developed in June 2008 in order to better understand Toronto's visitors by examining questions such as what the visitors do, where they stay, and how they feel about Toronto. The TTVS is managed by Tourism Toronto, but run in partnership with Ryerson University’s Ted Rogers School of Hospitality and Tourism Management and the Greater Toronto Airports Authority. Since the start of the study Ted Rogers Institute for Tourism and Hospitality Research has conducted over 9,000 exit interviews for Tourism Toronto.
Fairmont Hotels Trend Tracking
Since 2008, we have worked on a Web 2.0 based project that keeps Fairmont Hotels colleagues and executives apprised of trends and competitor information that affects the luxury travel segement. Whether it is competitive information, sustainable management or industry trend analysis, our students aggregate content from hundreds of websites on a daily basis for Fairmont Hotels employees around the world.
Fairmont Hotels E-mail Responses and Engagement Review
A study of e-mail responsiveness and engagement was conducted from April to June 2010. The institute measured the time and engagament of responses from over 450 e-mails sent to hotels around the world. The report is used by Fairmont at brand meetings to define the issues and establish an action plan to improve guest e-mail engagement.
