Dr. Rachel Dodds has worked extensively in sustainable tourism development in both the academic as well as government and private sectors. Her recent research programs examine sustainable tourism innovations (awarded a SSHRC grant in 2011), island tourism development and planning, and corporate social responsibility among tour operators. She received both the award for Scholarly Research and Creativity Award as well as the Hospitality and Tourism Management award for Outstanding Contribution to the Student Experience in 2011. Dr. Dodds's work employs a variety of methodological approaches including surveys, interviews, focus groups and mixed-methods. She is currently a member of the editorial board for ARA Journal of Travel Research and on the Board of Directors for Transportation Options.  She is passionate about change and travel. Currently she has visited over 78 countries.

Dr. Kelly MacKay has worked extensively with Parks Canada, the Canadian Tourism Commission Research Committee, Travel Manitoba, and Manitoba Conservation.  Her recent research programs examine Information Technology and Vacation Experiences (SSHRC) and Enhancing Rural Livelihoods in Uganda through Sustainable Community Tourism (CIDA, M. Campbell, PI), which in collaboration with Makerere University resulted in establishment of a Master's degree in Wildlife Tourism and Recreation. Dr. MacKay's work employs a variety of methodological approaches including photo-elicitation, focus groups, surveys, and mixed-methods. She is currently a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Travel Research and the board of directors of TTRA Canada.

Research Expertise: Customer Service Management, Business Simulations, and Culinary Tourism

Dr. Martin is the Director of Ted Rogers School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Ryerson University. His teaching and research expertise is in Customer Service Management, Business Simulations and Culinary Tourism. His research has been published in the Journal of Hospitality and Leisure Marketing; Journal of Travel Research and The Journal of Applied Hospitality Management. He has consulted with the Royal Bank, J. W. Marriott Corporation, and Cendant Corporation in the development of customer satisfaction measurement tools and executive development training programs in service management. He has developed and delivered for Delta Hotels and Accor Hotels and Resorts management training programs using a real-time computerized simulation program. The emphasis of this training is a balance approach to operations management that includes both financial as well as service management strategies to running a successful hotel operation. He is member of the Ontario Culinary Steering Committee, Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Member of SirCorp's Education Advisory Committee, Member, Canadian Hospitality Foundation Board Member, Editorial Advisory Member for the International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management and a Canadian Lodging News Editorial Advisory Council Member.

Chris Gibbs

Chris Gibbs (BCOMM, MBA)

Research Expertise: Social Media

Chris Gibbs is a PhD candidate from Stirling University in Scotland. His research focuses on the impacts of new media on the business of professional sports. Specifically, he is investigating the usage of Twitter by professional athletes, the practice of relationship management using social media and the legal risks of social media for professional athletes. Chris led several client focused research projects in the Ted Rogers Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Research. He has conducted studies for companies ranging from Tourism Toronto and Fairmont Hotels and Resorts to the City of Toronto and Royal Bank of Canada. Presently, the Tourism Toronto project conducts over 5,000 tourist exit interviews annually and provides over 2,000 hours of hands on tourism work experience each year.

Research Expertise: Sustainable Tourism, Corporate Social Responsibility, Partnership Development, Community Based Tourism, Island Tourism, Environmental Management, Stakeholder Engagement, Aboriginal Ecotourism, Greening of Hotels, Meetings, and Festivals

Dr. Graci has over 15 years experience as a specialist in sustainable tourism, corporate sustainability and environmental management. She is the Director of Accommodating Green, an environmental consulting organization that works with organizations to integrate sustainability in business operations. She is co-founder and Vice Chair of the Icarus Foundation, a not for profit organization that focuses on working with the tourism industry to mitigate the effects of climate change. Dr. Graci's research is focused on corporate social responsibility, greening the hotel industry, greening of festivals and events, community based tourism, Aboriginal ecotourism and partnership development. As a specialist in sustainable tourism in island destinations, Dr. Graci has also worked on developing sustainability strategies in islands in Indonesia, China and Honduras. She has published a book on greening the hotel industry and has co-authored her second book with Dr. Dodds on Sustainable Tourism in Island Destinations.

Dr. Hersch Jacobs is a Fellow of the Ontario Hospitality Institute, a founding member of the Ontario Culinary Tourism Alliance of Ontario and serves on the Advisory Council of Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO). Principal research interests include Food and Beverage Tourism in Prince Edward County, Ontario, Culinary Trails, Gastronomic Regions in France, Basque Cuisine and Identity, Structural Elements of a Canadian Cuisine and the Emergence of Craft Breweries in the Ontario Culinary Landscape. Many of these activities have involved the design, administration and construction of databases that benefit from the application of Geographical Information Systems.

Dr. Lu, a native of Qingdao, Shandong, China, has published more than 30 papers in journals and conference proceedings. His main research interests are strategic management and crisis management; e-procurement management in lodging industry and tourism management in China. Dr. Lu has gained extensive international experience in teaching and research in various countries throughout North America and Europe and in Asia where he has twice served as a guest professor.  Strong linkages in the Asian and particularly Chinese hospitality and tourism industry have led to numerous presentations at Asia­Pacific Tourism and Hospitality industry and Chinese university conferences where he has been a keynote speaker. Since 2004, Zhen has served on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Administration.

Richard Wade

Research Expertise: Culinary Tourism

Richard Wade is a third generation hospitality and tourism professional who has worked in the private and public sectors through his management consulting practice which specializes in undertaking consumer research, market studies, feasibility studies, and in the formulation of business plans and proposals. One of the founding principals of a hotel development and management company, he has been involved in the operations of several branded, full-service lodging properties within Canada. Teaching responsibilities concentrate on marketing, business development and research and data analysis courses. Over the past decade, he has led or participated in various culinary tourism studies that focus on wine tourism in the Niagara Peninsula, Prince Edward County and South Western Ontario.
