Dean's Message

It has been another year of remarkable achievement at the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University. The reputation and quality of our programs continue to grow. This brand recognition translates into a heightened demand for our professional, career-ready programs and the increased funding of our faculty’s research activities. The Ted Rogers School of Management has quickly become not only the largest business school in English Canada, but among the very best.

Students come first at the Ted Rogers School of Management. The ever increasing quality and caliber of our students has manifested itself in several notable accomplishments in various academic competitions this year. Our MBA students excelled in a number of national competitions. They placed first in the Royal Bank of Canada Great Innovator Challenge. Once again, the Ted Rogers team placed first in academics at the National MBA games - the most prestigious graduate business school competition in Canada. And the Ted Rogers School of Management team was the top Canadian team in the John Molson MBA International Case Competition held at Concordia University.

Similarly, at the undergraduate level, our students were successful in a variety of student competitions. For example:

  • Our undergraduate Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) placed first provincially and second nationally. At the national competition, the SIFE team were judged first in Financial Education and second in both the Entrepreneurship and Environmental Sustainability categories and Ryerson University was awarded "The Most Supportive Campus Administration” in Canada.
  • DECA Ryerson teams placed first provincially and nationally in all categories. In addition, the DECA team was awarded three first place awards and a number of Top 10 designations in the US competition.
  • A three-person TRSITM team placed second, against 16 universities from around the world, at the International Case Information Technology Management competition held at Simon Fraser University and
  • Our undergraduate accounting team placed 1st in the CMA national competition and 2nd in the CGA provincial competition.

The focus in both the undergraduate and graduate curricula is to integrate theory with practice, and this approach continues to prove its value. Our graduates consistently validate the value of a Ted Rogers School of Management education when they enter the workforce.

In the area of connecting with industry, our focus on premiere events including major conferences, public lectures and colloquiums, and research briefings continues to draw the business community into the School on a regular basis. In 2008-2009, the School hosted over 200 events – many of these student-run. These events provide a means whereby business executives and organizations located in downtown Toronto can engage with the School. These associations have translated into an increased awareness of our brand and have improved prospects for student placements, co-op participation, internships, and on-campus hiring.

The 2008-2009 academic year has been a major success on a number of dimensions. But as Ted Rogers would say “The best is yet to come”.
