Where is the school located?

The Ted Rogers School of Retail Management is situated in the heart of downtown Toronto beside the Toronto Eaton and between Yonge and Bay Streets. The school shares close proximity to the head offices of major retail organizations including Harry Rosen, Hudson’s Bay Company, H&M Canada, Canadian Tire, Cadillac Fairview, Ivanhoe Cambridge, and more.

When was the school / retail program founded?

 Ryerson University accepted the first cohort of students into the new B.Comm degree in Retail Management starting in the Fall of 1998; however, Ryerson’s history in educating retail professionals spans back to the 1950’s as a part of various degree, diploma, and certificate programs.

What are some of the areas of employment for new retail grads?

Graduates from the retail degree program often start their careers in one of three primary areas:

  • Buying, Planning, Category Management
  • Marketing
  • Operations Management

Typically these roles are within Grocery, Department, General Merchandise or Specialty Apparel retailers or Shopping Centre Management firms. However, merchandising and ecommerce related roles have been popular choices and a number of graduates have gone on to start their own businesses, or pursue graduate education such as an MBA or Design studies.

 Since 1996, the following retailers have been awarded an honorary doctorate of commerce:
