Prospective Graduate Students

     The HIV Prevention Lab is interested in prospective graduate students who have interests in prevention of HIV and in the treatment and care of people living with HIV. Specifically, we are interested in applicants with interests in sexual health and HIV prevention among gay and bisexual men, other men who have sex with men (MSM), and working with HIV positive populations.

     Previous research and/or volunteer experience working with gay and bisexual men, or other MSM would be an asset. However, Dr. Hart is aware that it is difficult to find these experiences before graduate school. Therefore, applications from prospective graduate students from other fields of research in psychology, public health, and other related disciplines will be strongly considered. Evidence of good research productivity is highly valued, especially authorship on publications and peer reviewed conference presentations.

     The HIV Prevention Lab accepts graduate students in the department of Psychology at Ryerson University in either the Psychological Science or Clinical Psychology fields, and in the graduate program in Public Health at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. Prospective Volunteer Research Assistants

     The HIV Prevention Lab is interested in volunteer research assistants, and provides research opportunities for undergraduate students in psychology, social work and related disciplines. Volunteer research assistants can be current or former students from any university as long as they are able to commit to 10 hours per week in the lab. Beginning volunteers start by working on more basic tasks (e.g., data collection and entry, literature searches) and with experience also work on more sophisticated tasks (e.g., data analysis, study design). We typically accept volunteers with a GPA of B+ or better. If you are interested in gaining valuable research experience and mentorship in preparation for graduate school, please complete the Volunteer Application Form and e-mail it to the HIV Prevention Lab Manager.
