The complete academic record of all your secondary and post-secondary (e.g. college, university) studies is considered as part of the competitive selection process. Admission is granted to the best qualified candidates based on the information available at the time of application review. Meeting minimum admission requirements/grades does not guarantee admission.
Admission is based on competitive grades in program specific subject requirements, competitive overall admission averages and where applicable, non-academic requirements (e.g., portfolio, essay, interview, audition). Grade 11 results may be used in the early admission offer process.
Competitive Overall Admission Averages and Program Specific Subject Requirements
The Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with a minimum overall average of 70% in six Grade 12 U/M courses, or equivalent, establishes eligibility for admission; subject to competition, individual programs may establish higher academic averages. All programs also stipulate specific subject prerequisites. Grades required for admission are determined on the basis of competition each year. Ryerson receives more applications than spaces available. Meeting minimum averages and/or grades does not guarantee admission.
Non-Academic Requirements (As Applicable) Some programs (Grades-Plus) also specify non-academic requirements for admission (e.g., portfolio, essay, interview, audition). Visit Academic Programs and select your program of interest to view the program specific non-academic requirements, including specific submission dates and procedures.
Direct-Entry Requirements (As Applicable) Some programs (Child and Youth Care, Early Childhood Education, Business Management, Information Technology Management and Retail Management) specify college diploma requirements, with minimum grades, and will vary by program. For these programs Secondary school transcripts are not required. Mature Student Guidelines do not apply.
Degree-Completion Requirements (As Applicable) Some programs (Disability Studies, Health Information Management, Health Services Management, Post-Diploma Nursing, Occupational and Public Health, Social Work Advanced Standing, and Urban and Regional Planning) specify post-secondary requirements, with minimum grades, and will vary by program. For these programs Secondary school transcripts are not required. Mature Student Guidelines do not apply.
Minimum Requirements (Applies to all Programs)
The minimum academic requirements apply to all programs.You are encouraged to achieve as much breadth of preparation as possible in the course of your studies leading to the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, while also meeting the subject pre-requisite requirements of your program(s) of choice.
The following are minimum requirements only and subject to change:
Completion of the OSSD or equivalent;
Six (6) Grade 12 U or M courses or equivalent including program specific prerequisite courses and English (one of ENG4U, ETS4U, EWC4U) /Anglais (one of EAE4U, EAL4U, EAC4U); English/Anglais (ENG4U/EAE4U) is the preferred English for all programs and is the required English for Journalism and Radio and Television.
All programs also stipulate specific subject prerequisites. Grades required for admission are determined on the basis of competition each year.
Please Note:
Grade 12U English/Anglais (or equivalent) is an admission requirement for all undergraduate programs; English as a Second Language studies or Tests for English Language Proficiency cannot be used as a substitute. Applicants whose first language is not English must also submit Proof of Proficiency in English.
Ryerson allows mixing of U, M, and OAC courses as applicable; comparable courses are not double-counted.
Ryerson does not accept the "out of school" component of Grade 12 U or M co-op courses for admission or scholarship consideration.
Repeated/Upgraded Courses - This policy is under review. Currently, Ryerson will calculate an applicant's overall average using his/her final marks in their best six Grade 12 U or M courses, which may include repeated/upgraded course marks.
