About the Program: Pregnancy, birth and early parenting are often profound and transformative experiences. While highly personal, pregnancy, birth and parenting are also influenced by social context. Midwives, as registered health professionals, are trained to provide exemplary, low-risk, primary care throughout the reproductive cycle, from conception to six weeks post-partum, and to be attentive to the personal, the social, and the systemic. The Ryerson MEP and the profession of midwifery are committed to clinical excellence and service, and to working equitably with individuals and families in all their diversities. Graduates of the Ryerson Midwifery Education Program play important roles in Canada's maternity care and health care more broadly.

This is a Grades-Plus program. In addition to the academic requirements listed below, this program selects students on the basis of grades PLUS non-academic requirements.

Thinking of applying? Make sure the program is still accepting applications.

Academic Requirements

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent with a minimum of six Grade 12 U or M courses including the following program specific requirements. Typically, a minimum overall average of 70% establishes eligibility for admission consideration; subject to competition individual programs may require higher pre-requisite grades and/or higher overall averages:

  • English/Anglais (ENG4U/EAE4U preferred)
  • One of: Biology (SBI4U) or Chemistry (SCH4U)
  • One Grade 12 U/M course in Canadian World Studies or the Social Sciences and Humanities. Minimum 70% required in each subject and minimum 70% overall average.

Note: The Midwifery Education Program is a highly competitive and limited enrolment program. Successful applicants normally have completed a minimum of one or more years of university or have equivalent experience before applying. We strongly encourage recent high school graduates interested in the program to gain further educational, work and/or volunteer experience prior to applying to the program.
