About the Program: What is the purpose of life? What are our obligations to each other and the environment? What is the true nature of human knowledge, beauty, power and God? These are some of the fundamental questions of philosophy that have been contemplated for centuries by thinkers wanting to understand the meaning of human existence and to solve social problems. Ryerson graduates from this creative and reflective humanities discipline will have the intellectual insights and the analytical, critical-thinking, abstract-reasoning and problem- solving skills to excel in a variety of professional careers in our knowledge-based economy.
This program selects students on the basis of academic achievement/grades only. Additional non-academic requirements are not required for admission consideration.
Applicants interested in the double major programs in Philosophy and English or Philosophy and History must apply for admission to one of the ten major programs (Criminology, English, Environment and Urban Sustainability, Geographic Analysis, History, Language and Intercultural Relations, Philosophy, Politics and Governance, Psychology or Sociology), or to Undeclared Arts. Students are not admitted directly to a double major.
The Faculty of Arts accepts applications for transfer to a double major program in the second semester of studies. Approved transfer students commence studies in the double major program in second year. Further details on the process will be provided by the Faculty of Arts during first semester.
