Headcount refers to the number of students, regardless of course-load or whether these are enrolled full- or part-time. A student's FFTE (fiscal full-time equivalent) is the proportion of a full load course load that he or she is taking. For example, if a program normally included 20 hours of instruction, a student enrolled in 15 hours of courses would generate 0.75 FFTE (15/20). FFTE enrolment for a particular program is the total of all students' individual FFTEs.

Ryerson regularly conducts a number of surveys to get input from students about their level of engagement, feedback about their academic programs and university services, and their overall level of satisfaction with Ryerson. Surveys are designed for students graduating from undergraduate programs, first-year undergraduate students, undergraduate students across all years, and graduate students. According to the 2008 Comprehensive Student Survey, conducted among undergraduate students across all years of study, over 90 percent of respondents are satisfied with their decision to attend Ryerson.

Survey data indicate that 94% of the Class of 2006 was employed within 6 months following graduation. Two years after graduation, this figure increases to 96%.

83% of the Class of 2005 was employed in a field that is somewhat or closely related to their field of studies within 6 months of graduation. Two years after graduation, this figure increases to 87%.

We refer to the proportion of students continuing from one year to the next as the retention rate. For example, our most recent data indicate that 83% of full-time, first-year students who entered a first-entry program at Ryerson from a secondary school in Fall 2008 were still enrolled at Ryerson in Fall 2009.

The graduation rate refers to the proportion of students who graduate within a specified period of time. For example, 77% of full-time students who entered first-entry programs directly from a secondary school in Fall 2003 graduated within 6 years.
