"A Funny Thing Happened..." in February
Three Roman comedies by Plautus, adapted and directed by Vrenia Ivonoffski.
Three riotous stories filled with the usual mistaken identities, lost and found loves, broken-hearted mothers,
jealous husbands, the inevitable interfering gods, drunkards, parasites looking for free meals and, of course, lots of whores....wow, busy times!!!

Silver Screens Arts Festival. Thursday May 31–Sunday, June 3
ACT II STUDIO's “Theatre out of the Box” is one of the opening events at the Arts Festival.
Five new plays are featured: written, directed and performed by our members.
“Theatre out of the Box” performances at the Rogers Communications Centre, 80 Gould Street,
on Thursday May 31 7:00-9:00 pm and Friday June 1 2:00-4:00 pm.
Tickets are $15 each.

“Back to Work”- by Mairy Beam, Directed by Dave Cormack
Sally has discovered a passion for painting in her retirement. When her daughter moves in with two-year-old twins, Sally must learn to fight for time and space to paint. Her friend, Trish, is always ready to stir things up.
“Take Me With You” - by Joan Edge, Directed by Joan Harrison
An aspiring airport immigration officer attempts to improve his mundane and boring life with some unexpected and humorous results !
“Table Talk” - by Neil Naft, Directed by Michael Sherman
A group of senior citizens living in a rooming house confront a moral dilemma.
"If...." - by Suzanne Gauthier, directed by Vrenia Ivonoffski
Anger and recriminations from the recent and distant past complicate a mother/daughter discussion of independence, and its loss.
“Martin Sees a What?” - by Cathy Shilton, Directed by Richard Carter
A modern fairy tale about mid-life love.
The Stella Award, in recognition of a playwright (50+), who is a member of ACT II STUDIO or LIFE Institute and who has created a winning original play, will be awarded on Thursday, May 31 at 1:30 pm

Current ACT II Studio projects include:

  • MOVING SCENES
    Moving Scenes are short plays and scenes about relationships, issues and situations experienced by older adults. They inform, empower and stimulate discussions. They are always entertaining.
    For over ten years, Moving Scenes has performed for a variety of organizations, including:
    • Recreation and Community Centres
    • Associations for Retirees (teachers, nurses, etc)
    • Religious Fellowship Groups
    • Professional Conferences
    • Retirement Homes
    • Library Groups
    • Senior's Groups
    Let us bring our theatre to your group or organization. We require only basic furniture such as tables and chairs, making our show readily adaptable to your space.

With these words by our 8 cast members, the young audience is pulled into our stories. These truths reveal our vulnerability, struggles and foibles as well as our ability to survive adversity and change.

  • PLAY SEARCH SUB-COMMITTEE: If you love reading plays, you'll enjoy this group whose job it is to find appropriate plays for ACT II STUDIO. It meets 4-6 times yearly.

  • MATINEES: an opportunity for members to present their work in front of fellow students. Perform a monologue, scene, song, or dance which you have worked on in class or on your own.

  • PLAY DEVELOPMENT: Have you written a theatrical gem? Anything from a monologue to a full three-act play is of interest to the artistic director. Please submit a copy (no originals) and you'll get (1) comments and suggestions and may have your play read at an informal members-only workshop (2) you'll get hands-on dramaturgical help to develop your play for a possible production at the Annual New Plays Festival.

In this powerful musical portrait, an era of innovation and unrest is set to the rhythms of ragtime. A sweeping saga of turn-of-the-century America seen through the eyes of three families - suburbanites of New Rochelle, the African American community in Harlem and the Eastern European immigrants of the Lower East Side.

Wednesay October 10:  Much Ado About Nothing.
Stratford Festival Theatre
   ...by William Shakespeare. Directed by Christopher Newton
As Claudio woos his beloved Hero, his friend Benedick and Hero's cousin Beatrice trade insults in their "merry war" of mutual disdain. But as Claudio's wedding day approaches, a series of deceptions - both friendly and malicious - bring about more than one dramatic change of heart.
Special discussion and critique by Vrenia Ivonoffski, Artistic Director of ACT II STUDIO, on the bus.
