Project manager and research assistant for a National Science Foundation
funded study that investigates inter-organizational coordination for the
deployment of ICTs by humanitarian relief organizations. The study is part
of COHORT (Coordination of Humanitarian Organizations in Relief using Technology),
an academic research program that studies coordination practices by relief
organizations and the role of ICTs in supporting coordination.

Institute for Information and Communication Technologies, South Africa,
May - December 2006.
Research Associate
Member of the First Mile First Inch international project team with partners
from South Africa, Angola, and Mozambique, that aims to develop models and
technology to increase access to ICTs for development. Identified regulatory
frameworks in southern Africa and bottlenecks for WiFi community network
deployment by small organizations. Data collection through interviews and
document analysis.

Prepared literature reviews, collected and analyzed data for a number of
projects, including (1) market entry of application developers in the U.S.
mobile Internet market, (2) a UMTS-WLAN at Trial Delft University of Technology
that investigated inter-organizational implementation challenges, (3) E-Hubs:
Online Engineering Services, a European Commission funded project that,
in partnership with 10 European and South American partners, designed an
online engineering services platform; and (4) the Delft UMTS Testbed, which
explored end-user security features.

Research Intern
Conducted interviews to study (1) people’s awareness about the dangers of
drinking arsenic contaminated drinking water, and (2) people’s perceptions
about implemented safe drinking water solutions. Resulted in recommendations
for use of safe drinking water solutions, presented to BRAC, Bangladesh’s
largest development NGO.
