Hi, I have decided to move all of the content from these pages to my blog: torontoceliac.blogspot.com. It is becoming increasingly difficult to update html pages in a timely fashion. Blogger now supports categories (labels), so I feel it makes sense to use that functionality. I have created several labels (restaurants, stores, etc.) to make navigation easier. Publishing is instant on the blog and many people can contribute. Please consider joining the blog and posting about your experiences. You can also comment without having a Blogger account.

About This Site
|
When I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease, I had lots of questions. I wanted to know where to buy Gluten-free products and what restaurants are able to provide a gluten-free meal. I noticed that people on the Celiac listerv wanted information about other cities they were planning to visit. I hope this site provides some guidance to other Celiacs. The main features of this site are the Restaurant Guide, the Retail Guide--a listing of Toronto area businesses selling gluten-free products--and the Mail Order Guide, a listing of companies outside of the greater Toronto area providing gluten-free products. A few links are also provided, including a extensive listing of books. With persistence, and a little luck, you should be able to get a gluten-free meal in most restaurants. Jax Peters Lowell's book, Against the Grain: the Slightly Eccentric Guide to Living Well Without Gluten or Wheat, contains valuable tips on dealing with wait staff and chefs. If you are vegetarian, eating gluten-free in restaurants is a bigger challenge. The Restaurant Guide contains listings of establishments that I have had a positive experience with (and are close to my home or work) and those that have been recommended to me by others. I hope to add to this list regularly. I have no financial interest in any of the businesses listed in these pages. I do not guarantee that the company, store, or restaurants' products listed here are gluten-free. As a Celiac, it is your responsibility to take an active role in your health. You must ask questions and verify any information that has come to you second hand. |
