Hi, I have decided to move all of the content from these pages to my blog: torontoceliac.blogspot.com. It is becoming increasingly difficult to update html pages in a timely fashion. Blogger now supports categories (labels), so I feel it makes sense to use that functionality. I have created several labels (restaurants, stores, etc.) to make navigation easier. Publishing is instant on the blog and many people can contribute. Please consider joining the blog and posting about your experiences. You can also comment without having a Blogger account.

Whole Foods, 87 Avenue Road, Unit 150, Toronto, Ontario, M5R 3L2. 416.944.0500, fax 416.944.0700
Whole Foods recently opened a large store in the Yorkville area in Toronto, the first location outside of the United States. It offers a large selection of natural and organic food, in addition to "conventional foods". The good news for celiacs is that gluten-free products are labeled with a shelf sticker to help identify them. It is important to keep in mind that this information seems to come from the package. You will still have to read labels to make sure that the products carry the correct shelf label. Kosher products are also clearly labeled. Gluten-free labeling is restricted to those items that are traditionally not gf, so obviously gf items are not labeled. Kinnikinnick products and a variety from some other well known vendors, are stocked. More information is available by clicking through to the store's website above. It seems to me that Whole Foods is an expensive store.
The Wholesome Market, 2234 Queen Street East (at Beech), Toronto, Ontario, M4E 1G2, 416.690.9500
Mary suggested this place and writes: "They carry a constant supply of GF

Friday. The rest of the week is hit and miss but of course, there are
always products in the freezer. Also, they will order in my favourite
bread - Natures Own Life without Wheat Pumpernickel." Here's a brief description from Toronto Life. Here's a picture of the store.
